RELIGION – The Pope’s Trip: Humility and Ostentation

¿A qué viene tanta parafernalia?
It is as if it were the biggest circus, that is how I see in my modest view the visit of the Pope to Madrid.  This visit has had an effect like a magnet, attracting a heterogeneous group of people, who range from the Outraged to the minorities and the respectable atheists, all of whom represent the most established and oldest anticlericalism.  And all of them have united life a pine at this festival.  It has to do with converting the Youth Movement into a massive protest against the most profound roots of Catholicism of Spain, and at the same time the sinister Rubalcaba to be able to get some votes of these collectives for the elections on 20 November, well it would be necessary before the catastrophe of PSOE.
In my case the rejection of this visit has other repercussions.  Well it is simply indignant to organize this circus, which is supported by the cream of the Spanish capitalism.  Yes sir, 40 entrepreneurs, all of whom are the most important, Emilio Botin, Cesar Alierta, the president of the CEOE Gerardo Diaz Ferran.  These entrepreneurs will finance the trips of some 8,000 bishops and 14,000 priests who come from all parts of the world.  And these entrepreneurs would receive fiscal exemptions, as this circus has been declared one of social interest.
Apart from this 10,000 police would be mobilised, the aerial space will be closed.  The event will cost about 50 million Euros, whoever foots the bill is irrelevant, the amount is simply indecent.  Why spend all this money for this ostentation?  Is this the Church that we want?  Is this circus just another demonstration of paganism?  Let’s look at the true meaning of Christianity.  After all Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem on a donkey.  His life was of total sobriety in all aspects.  He did not need to congregate a million supporters.  He was not treated as the Head of State.  He said, “One cannot serve both God and Money.”  Where is the evangelistic message in this case?  I cannot find its meaning in this circus, since everything loses credibility when it is pure spectacle and insulting publicity.  The true believer will feel confused and perplexed.  Where is there so much paraphernalia?  I would suppose that if Jesus Christ were to return to this earth, he would do the same as he had done to the merchants in the temple, that is to chase them all out.  At the end of the day, these are hard and ambiguous times to have any faith.
